![]() Our group got started back in the early 2000's. We all met through the Starshipmodeler Forums originally, then found out we all reside in or near the Central Florida area, so we scheduled a meeting @ an Applebee's in Temple Terrace and the rest, as they say, is history. Why form our own club? It was mostly because the other local modeling clubs used to have a rather standoffish and elitist attitude towards any model that was not their usual standard of planes, armor or ships. Since all of us build both science fiction and non-science fiction models, we couldn't completely understand or agree with the reasons behind this attitude, nor could we change it (at the time), so we formed a group that would be more tolerant of ANY kind of scale model. As for the name, well... we all
were and still are fans of
Farscape. At
the time of it's cancellation, thanks to an
idiotic decision of the Sci-Fi Channel's management, we were looking
for a name for our club and we all settled on Florida Peacekeepers.
A homage to our home state and to Farscape. Perfect!
We currently have people from
Tampa, Orlando & Port Charlotte (plus a transplanted FPK member in
Wisconsin, which makes us a nationwide club bay-bee!
FPK's primary goal is to have fun and promote the hobby, no matter the type or kind of model. Of late we have been participating in local model competitions in order to further this goal, and to our delight, the attitude towards SF models has slowly began to improve. Our talented members are very good at what they do, and have won several awards at the local & national IPMS contests, as well as at Wonderfest. You can see a sample of their work @ our photo gallery. So if you live in or near the Orlando/Lakeland/Tampa areas, come on over and pay us a visit. Everybody is welcome. Cheers from
Florida!
